How can I get water from my sump pump to be used outside the house?

I live in an area with an extremely high water table and my sump pump is constantly pumping out water that is sent right down the drain. I would like to hire a plumber to rig the pump so that the water from the pit could be used for more resourceful purposes outside the house like watering the grass or garden. Is this feasible and would it be costly? How would the system be rigged? I am thinking that the water would be pumped into a type of storage container outside the house and then any excess would channeled down the usual drainpipe. Right now the current situation is that the water is in a pit and is pumped into a PVC pipe and down the sewer pipe. This setup is legal in my neighborhood. The sump pump turns about once a minute. Thanks for your help!
