How do I get a number and name off a hockey jersey?

Last Christmas I got a Brad Boyes 22 Blues jersey and in the next couple months the Blues traded him to Buffalo. I need to know if there is a way to remove the name and number. Its sewn on and my gmas a good sewer so is there anything she could do? Please help.
