Silent Hill 1 for ps1 ending question?

I've had the game for years now, and I kind of stopped playing it like two years ago. Something brought me to wanting to play it again now and I did, and I realized I was at the sewers the last time I saved. (Heading to the lighthouse). I made my way towards the amusement park and it seemed that I couldn't do anything to save Cybil because I didn't collect the unknown liquid. (Which is really irritating because through memory I kind of remembered seeing it, but I didn't think much of it.) So there is no way of going back to the hospital, right? Without saving Cybil, do I automatically get the bad ending? If I don't save Cybil, I can't save Cheryl? I just got the bad ending, and it's driving me crazy because now I have to play it all over again, and once was pretty bad. (I am such a wimp ._.) Any SH fans out there who can answer this answer, I appreciate it :D
