Trying to find this movie?

the guy was popular and there's a girl who ia sort of a criminal she and her friends beat him up and he falls down this well or sewer. they think they killed him and run off, but his ghost or spirit follows the girl around trying to get her to go back to his body and help him. she does eventually and realizes that he isn't dead. i think it was a remake but i don't know the actors at all the girl in the movie had long curly/frizzy hair. any clue what it is will be helpful
