Is it a good idea to send the sump pump water to my drain field?

I dug down to the drain system and found out the sump pump is just putting the water it pumps right back into the drain system. My pump runs every 20 seconds when it rains hard. I have city water and sewer and no longer use the old sewer drain field in the yard. Could this handle the water from the sump pump? thanks John
